After starting with watercolor, he later switched to oil and acrylic painting as well as various mixed techniques. Particularly, the local mountain landscape shapes his work. Photographs of mountains he has climbed or hiked often serve as a starting point. Through further processing with color and brush, personal, sometimes abstract interpretations emerge – from a realistic motif, it becomes “my mountain.”

Flowers, especially early bloomers from his own garden, are also among his preferred motifs. With a light, watercolor-like application of color, Lauth brings their beauty and elegance to the canvas. In addition to his painting, Lauth has also worked in book illustration, sculptural design, and facade design. Since his retirement in 2001, he has increasingly dedicated himself to artistic work and the processing of impressions from his travels.
