Guided tour of the Mooser dam

Experience the myth of Kaprun and take a unique look behind the scenes of hydropower. Together with a guide, you will discover the impressive mountain world around the Mooserboden reservoir and the interior of the 107 metre high Mooser dam. During the one-hour tour, you will learn exciting details about the history, construction and technology of Austria's most important power plant.
Tip: Visit the free ‘Erlebniswelt Strom’ exhibition right at the end of the tour. With original exhibits, documents and photographs, this is the ideal complement to the guided tour.

The town market will also take place in 2025 every Friday from 21 March to 19 December from 8 am to 1 pm In September there will always be live music!

Every September, the Zell am See-Kaprun region celebrates Alpine Delights – and Kaprun’s home mountains are right at the heart of it, offering guests plenty of culinary experiences to discover. Highlights include the Picnic at Maiskogel on the family mountain in Kaprun and the Summit Breakfast at Salzburg’s most elevated restaurant on the Kitzsteinhorn. At the Gipfel Restaurant 3,029 meters above sea level and the Alpincenter Restaurant at 2,450 meters, guests can look forward not only to spectacular views, but also to special dishes created exclusively for the Alpine Delight Weeks.

Baking bread at Kaprun Kirchbichl

Every Friday, master baker Günther Katschner, bakery Katschern bred&more, begins early in the morning with the traditional preparations for baking bread at Kaprun Kirchbichl, for this the old wooden bread oven from the early 19th century is heated up.
Starting from 10 o’clock is it then so far, the tasty kinds of bread, Tauernroggenbrot or root bread and sweet Gebbäck, like Milchbrotzopf, Buchteln and delicious nut and poppy seed strudel stand ready for the sales, with over 400 years old Steinerbauernhaus, in which also the Kaprun Musuem is resident.
Günther Katschner is a master baker in the truest sense with “loaf and soul”. With his team of over 20 employees, he oversees several locations and also operates a delivery service. He skilfully combines the tried and tested with new ideas and can thus count a colorful and rich variety of breads and pastries as well as pastries and cakes among his assortment.
